Nak beli Apple Watch (2015)? Relax dulu.

Apple Watch (2015) vs iPhones

Apple Watch (2015) vs iPhones

Warning. This post is long. I’m commenting as a person teaching and doing research in engineering design🙂

Tahun ni adalah tahun Apple Watch being released in the public. I’ve been a big fan of how Johnny Ive and Steve Jobs executed their vision in design. However, I’ll not be paying Apple for Apple Watch V1 this year🙂

Why? This is why this is a quite long post😀

Shown in the figure uploaded here is the Apple Watch on the left side, compared against several generations of iPhones on the right side, from below; iPhone (1), iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and lastly iPhone 6.

As shown in the figure, the Apple Watch is basically akin to iPhone (1), expect some awesomeness as the Apple Watch stacked to the next version in the future. But at the moment, hold your horses, some of the earlier users of Apple Watch noted that the user interface/user experience (UI/UX) is not up to the notch, and not-so-good battery life. You need to charge it once a day.

Okay, that happened to iPhone (1) as well, but design improves over time. Look at iPhone 6/6 Plus. With occasional emails, some Whatsapp and social apps, I don’t have to charge it for almost a day and a half.

In design, there is something that we call ‘evolution in design’. While design is not just the aesthetics (aesthetics tu rupa luaran), a proper design comes from the core purpose of the product. Which means, a watch that is able to track health (akin to my Vivofit 2) should be having long term battery life, should be light, ideal thickness and intuitive. But, I reckon that the Apple Watch hasn’t come up to that level yet.

So, if you have RM 1400 to RM 3000 to spare, masukkan dalam ASB dulu, tak pun Tabung Haji untuk lagi 2 tahun. Tak rugi invest kat sana😀
